calculation of premiums for stays of more than 1 year:
premium of 12-month period + premium per additional month each

You will easily find the right premium for your trip by taking these hints:

  • This insurance is a travel health insurance for trips abroad.
  • It is not required to be a student. The STA Travel health insurance can be booked by everybody. The insurer is HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung AG.
  • Furthermore it is not required that you are insured in Germany or in any other home country while you are on your journey.
  • Only your age at the date of departure is crucial for the premium. It is of no importance if you reached an age limit while travelling.
  • If you are travelling on a transit flight through USA or Canada or if you spend not more than 1 night as a transit passenger on your outward and/or return journey, you can apply the cheaper premium “USA & Canada excluded”.
  • As well you can apply the cheaper premium "USA & Canada excluded", if the insured period is 12 months at least and if you will stay not longer than 14 days in the USA or in Canada during this period.
  • The insurance coverage is valid worldwide abroad except of Germany or any other home country. Home countries are countries around the world, where you have a registered residence. USA & Canada only are included, if you booked the premium "incl. USA & Canada". (for information on limited coverage in your home country, if the journey is interrupted: see information above).
  • Travel health insurance needs to be booked over the entire journey time (date of departure from your home country until date of return to your home country)
  • If you wish to insure only a part of your journey time, please contact us. Exceptionally it is possible to insure parts of a journey time.
  • Please note that policies not covering the entire journey time or which are not booked for an shorter period because of an exemption agreed on in advance are not valid.
  • Maximum insurance period: 60 months. If you are staying abroad more than 12 months, the premium “12 months” will be applied and additionally the monthly premium for each additional month according to the chart above.
  • Family: 1 or 2 adults + minimum 1 child under 18 years of age, in total max. 5 persons. Full-aged children are included, if still in formation. Persons of a family premium must not be related to each other.
  • If your travel plan is changing while you already abroad, you can prolong your policy up to 60 months. The additional premium is exactly counted for the extended time. Please contact us by e-mail before your present policy expires.
  • If you return earlier than expected to your home country, premiums paid for the remaining travel months will be refunded. Please keep your boarding card or any other document that states the date of your return und get in touch with us when you are back home.

  • Your stay in home country is an interruption of your journey abroad (which is continued at the end of your stay in home country).

If your journey is finished earlier than scheduled (regardless of the reason) there is by no means insurance coverage in the home country. Your insurance policy automatically expires on the day of final return to your home country. Premiums for the remaining months not used because of premature return travel will be refunded.
